It's official: Formula 1 is coming back to Istanbul. After years of rumours, stand-in appearances and false starts, the Turkish Grand Prix returns to the calendar from 2027, with Istanbul Park locked in for five years, through the 2031 season. Ticket pre-registration is already open, while the race date and prices are not out yet. Here's what was announced, why the track matters, and how to get in line without getting stung.
What was announced
In April 2026, Formula 1 and Turkey's Ministry of Youth and Sports confirmed a five-year agreement returning the Turkish Grand Prix to the world championship from 2027 to 2031. The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) was named as Formula 1's delivery partner for the races.
Two things were not announced, and both matter if you are planning around this. There is no date for the 2027 Turkish Grand Prix, because that arrives with the full 2027 calendar. There are no ticket prices either. Anyone quoting you either one today is guessing.
How to register for tickets
Pre-registration is open, and it is worth understanding what that actually is. You are not buying anything and you are not reserving a seat. You are joining a list, so that when tickets do go on sale you hear about it first rather than finding out when the good grandstands have already gone.
There are two official routes, and we would use both:
- The organiser's own page, run by TOSFED as the delivery partner, at turkishgp.tosfed.org.tr.
- Formula 1's own ticketing waitlist for the event, at ticketing.formula1.com/turkiye, which is where F1 sells grandstand, hospitality and Paddock Club seats directly.
A word of caution, because a race announcement like this brings the resellers out immediately. A large number of sites are already selling "2027 Turkish Grand Prix tickets" for an event with no announced date and no released inventory. Some are legitimate authorised packagers, and some are not, but none of them can sell you a real seat for a race that has not gone on sale. Until F1 or TOSFED announce an on-sale date, register your interest and pay nobody.
Why Istanbul Park is a big deal
Istanbul Park isn't just another circuit returning for commercial reasons; drivers genuinely rate it. The 5.33-kilometre layout in the Tuzla district on the Asian side of the city is famous for its elevation changes and above all for Turn 8, a long, multi-apex left-hander that remains one of the most demanding corners in the sport and has been imitated at newer venues since.
The track first hosted F1 from 2005 to 2011, then returned during the pandemic seasons of 2020 and 2021, which makes nine Grands Prix in total. That short history is unusually dense with things people remember. Felipe Massa won three in a row for Ferrari between 2006 and 2008, still the record at the circuit. Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-equalling seventh world title there in the wet in 2020. Valtteri Bottas won the most recent one in 2021, and he and Hamilton are the only two drivers still racing who have won a Turkish Grand Prix.
What it means for a race weekend in Istanbul
A Grand Prix weekend transforms a host city, and Istanbul is better set up for it than most: tens of thousands of international visitors, packed hotels from Sultanahmet to Kadikoy, and a nightlife calendar that reshapes itself around race week. Expect the party scene to lean hard into it, F1 weekends everywhere from Melbourne to Miami come with a full after-hours program, and Istanbul will not be the exception.
It is also worth knowing that 2027 is a heavy year for the city beyond the racing.
